Poet’s Showcase

Awakening

pristine lake blue

gives way to gray-dark waters

as roiling clouds

advance, punctuated by

lightning flashes

caught by shutter bugs

along the northern shore.

electric shafts touch the

surface, followed by ever

closer rumbles from thor

’til the mother of all drum rolls

detonates o’erhead, startling the

captive audience … and a young

child howls in fear.

the once placid lake awakens

even as the dawn of each morn

creeps on cat’s feet

to surprise the world.

for a blond two-year old, life

changes … frail flesh exposed!

how were you ‘wakened from

dreaming innocence?
