County roads

To the editor:

I have lived in Lawrence my entire life and over 10 years outside the city limits. I can not remember a time when I have driven home on “decent” gravel roads, been fully aware of sharp turns and been able to clearly see road signs in unfamiliar places. As a resident in the county, I often feel that our concerns and problems are often viewed as “out of town, out of mind.” Just because we live outside the city limits does not mean that we should not have our roads taken care of.

If the city can spend so much money and time paving over potholes in the roads in town, why are the gravel roads in the county left with potholes, without gravel and in dangerous condition?

Can our county not find the money to fix the road signs that have been hit or fallen over and make sure that our roads have enough gravel on them so they don’t turn into giant sinkholes? I do not think that it is much to ask for. In fact, county residents should not have to complain to get these simple requests. What is all of our tax money paying for if it isn’t paying for the needs of the taxpayers?
