Lincoln, Neb. ? Kansas University junior Egor Agafonov was named the male athlete of the meet Saturday at the Husker Invitational after throwing for a meet- record 74 feet, 3â4 inches in the weight throw – a mark that automatically qualifies him for the NCAA meet.

Agafonov continued his assault on the Division I performance chart with his throw, as the junior has now won every meet in which he has competed and owns the second-longest throw in the nation. The throw was also his season best.

Juniors Crystal Manning and Colby Wissel also bested their own NCAA provisional marks.

Manning improved her triple-jump mark with a winning performance of 42-93â4 inches. Wissel won the men’s 3,000 meters in a time of 8 minutes, 3.33 seconds, a new personal best that tops the provisional mark.

Junior Kate Sultanova won the women’s pole vault by clearing 13-51â4, another NCAA provisional mark.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will return to the track Friday at the ISU Classic in Ames, Iowa.
