News judgment

To the editor:

“Tens of thousands” of war protesters – front page.

Hundreds of thousands protest abortion (almost 200 from Lawrence!) – no story.

Soldiers killed in Iraq – daily death toll (now 3,000-plus). Unborn children killed in U.S. – now 4,000-plus daily (toll: more than all modern wars combined!) – not one column inch. Wacko whacks abortionist – headlines! Tiller’s clinic offs 4,000-plus babies a year – not newsworthy. Baby cut from womb, mother killed – crime story. Baby sliced up with no anesthesia and vacuumed from womb, mom walks – you guessed it: no story.

Unbiased? Hardly. Journalism? I don’t think so.
