HINU can’t hold lead
OMAHA ? Haskell Indian Nations University couldn’t hold an eight-point second-half lead in a 53-51 women’s basketball loss to College of St. Mary on Friday night.
Shanda Murdoch had 13 points and six rebounds, and Margaret Stevens added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Indians.
Haskell committed 25 turnovers.
“We just didn’t handle the ball very well tonight,” Haskell coach Phil Homeratha said. “And they weren’t against their press. We played hard, but that’s not an excuse. It was a good defensive game.”
Melissa Haag’s three-pointer rimmed out with two seconds remaining.
“Maybe it wasn’t our night,” Homeratha said. “We got up by as much as eight, but we just didn’t hold it.”
