Club news

The Betty Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Jan. 20 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Carol Hester, of Riverfront Chocolates, gave a program about chocolate. The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 17 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor, 1429 Kasold Drive. Aliene Dieber will give a program on aprons through the years.

¢University Bridge Club announces results of its Jan. 27 meeting. Hosts were Marmie and Edna Galle. Blue winners were Walt Hicks, first; Dale Kring, second; Dave Gaumer, third; Leonard Fleske, fourth; and Gini Wigington, fifth. Pink winners were Mryna Ikenberry, first; Wanda Kring, second; Alice Akin, third; JoAnne Hicks, fourth; and Mary Kanous, fifth.

¢The Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club played a stratified Mitchell movement at 10 tables directed by Virginia Seaver on Jan. 24. Ed Howard and Harry Shaffer led the North-South pairs placing first in A. Elle and Bobby Patton won second in A and first in B and C, followed by Mona Bell and Chuck Hedges who won third in A and second in B and C. Third place in B and C was won by Al Ballard and John Gilbert. Playing East-West, Dave Piro and Paul Heitzman won first in A, and Klee Zaricky and Betty Collier won second in A and first in B and C. Marilyn Martin and Clarice Broz won third in A and second in B and C. Ginny Johnston and Marge Hitchcock won third in B and C.

¢The Friday Afternoon Bridge Club played a stratified Mitchell movement at 10 and a half tables directed by Don Brennaman on Jan. 26. Mona Bell and Madelyn Jenks won first in A, B and C at North-South. Jean Otney and Wanda Durbin were second in A and B, and Dianne Childs and Polly Schoning were third.

At East-West, Harry Talley and Don Daugherty won overall, placing first in A, B and C, followed by Lynn Hui and Cathy Blumenfeld who were second overall. Bobby Patton and Mark Osborn won third in A and B. Bobbie McCorkle and Jayne Holliman won third in C.

¢The Monday Evening Bridge Club played a stratified Mitchell movement at 10 tables directed by Virginia Seaver on Jan. 29. Jeane Landry and Lynn Hui won first in A playing North-South. Julia and Lester Dalton won second in A and first in B. Chris Lane and Virginia Seaver won third in A. Linda Randall and Linda Swain won second in B and first in C.

At East-West, Jerry Sloan and Jeff Nash won first in A, followed by Harriett Olson and Eldon Herd who won second in A and first in B. Dorothy Netson and Barbara Merriam won third in A, second in B and first in C. Dianne Childs and Polly Schoning won second in C and third in B.
