Riverside School parents were strongly opposing the proposal to close their school in the interest of district economy.

The Kansas Senate was considering measures to provide added funds to Kansas University to help close the $750,000 gap in utility bills caused by the extreme weather of recent months.

The Gene and Barbara Burnett Burn Center at Kansas University Medical Center was proving to be a major player on the area medical scene. The Burnetts, of Lawrence, had provided the funds to set up the center. Dr. Mani M. Mani was one of the key physicians at the center.
