Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 2, 1907: “Some from here who attended the Kansas Day banquet in Topeka wonder why the state printer put on the menu cards so many things they never got. : Fred Funston complains because California bricklayers make more money than officers in the regular army. He can always leave the army and become a bricklayer. : The district court bar docket for February is released and it contains an even hundred cases. Seventeen are divorce cases, 14 criminal cases and the rest are suits of a civil nature. : A “Mr. Jones” who tried various ruses to embezzle money from the local YMCA and its members is being sought for arrest and it turns out police in Boston are also looking for him. He is an expert forger. His real name is Howard Miller but he has disappeared for the time being.”
