Action is tabled on a voice vote with little opposition

Topeka A legislative committee Friday rejected a proposed moratorium on coal-burning power plants.
House Bill 2219 was tabled on a voice vote by the House Energy and Utilities Committee.
The only lawmaker who could be heard opposing the motion to derail the bill was state Rep. Vaughn Flora, D-Topeka, who authored the proposed moratorium.
The bill was filed as state officials consider a $5 billion project by Sunflower Electric Power Corp. to build three 700-megawatt coal-fired plants in western Kansas.
Flora's legislation would have imposed a a two-year moratorium on construction of coal-burning plants. During that time, the state would have conducted a study on the health effects of emissions from coal-fired plants.
On Monday during a public hearing on the bill, utility executives said the moratorium, if enacted, would kill the Sunflower project, and lead to rate increases.
But environmentalists said the moratorium would protect Kansans' health by reducing climate-changing coal-fired emissions and help the economy by increasing development of renewable energy, such as wind.

As usual, the Kansas legislature is lagging far behind in those who realize global warming is occurring and something needs to be done about it now. Rather than build coal-fired plants they need to seriously be considering harnessing the wind to power their energy needs. But boy they sure are quick to ask the feds for help with their ice and snow storms. Never mind that the weather is changing because of global warming. I really am sick of seeing my taxes go to help those who refuse to remove their heads from the sand.

Global warming, resulting in Ice and SNOW storms????
That would be Global cooling! You see when things get cold, it is called “ice” and “snow”. Cold is the opposite of “warming”.
What we really need are 4 nuke plants.

Only Kansas would go in the opposite direction of the top scientists from around the world. The same day that the world leaders in climatology sound off about Global Warming and the human causes, Kansas goes and shows why it has been the butt of so many jokes at annual international science comventions. First it was evolution and now it's global warming. Good call, Kansas.

I will state this SLOWLY for those that do not get it:
IF “Global Warming” is happening because of CO2 emissions that are from man made activities and IF the IPCC is correct, there is no hope as the IPCC report states as well. That is because of CHINA building 1 coal fired power plant every day. china will burn more coal in the next fifteen years than the US and Europe combined has ever burned!!!!
I do think this is a “loaded” report. What this is about it those smaller countries trying towring dollars and money out of the more developed countries, because theose little countries are taking poor care of their citizens. That is what I think a big part of what this is.
IF you believe this is caused by human emitted CO2, and that climate change is occurring, then you need to focus your complaints on CHINA and INDIA, and quite worrying about 3 smaller and insignificant plants in SW Kansas.
It is the equilivelant of spitting in the ocean when comparing 3 coal fired power plants in Kansas and comparing it ot the one a day that CHINA is building and continuing to build.
CHINA is the problem,….. not the US or Europe. Only ignorant Kansans and political agneda driven idealouges cannot see that.
Forsest for the trees,….forest for the trees.

That's right blame it on China. The US currently is the largest contributor of CO2, while China is a close second. To say it all rides on China is completely inaccurate and unfortunately the same thinking Inhofe holds.
BTW. That same report said while there is nothing we can do to stop the effects of global warming it does state that we can curb those effects in the long run and actually demands that we do so if we are to avoid catastrophic ends.

Remember this article. This could be why many people are skeptical about some of these studies. Time magazine in 1974 and Newsweek in 1975 were writing about global cooling and signs of a possible coming of another ice age.

“each and every legislator who has supported these new coal plants should have MAJOR opposition when they come up for re-election.”
.
Reality check here: Only the author of the bill voted for it. Regardless of the validity of his opinion, this shows you how far away some posting here are from the opinions from even the Demo members of the Kansas Legislature. Or the Demo Governor. This is not even an issue for them. Maybe sad, but true.

Cool: ” why do Kansas residents
get the air & water pollution and depletion of the aquifers when DENVER gets the majority of this electricity”
.
Goof points out it is because of the environmental lobby in Colo. passed the renewable portfolios legislation in there….to save us all from Carbon Dioxide you understand….Duhh, Good luck with that. Energy is not a state by state issue, nor can it be solved by such state laws & prohibitions. The principal issues must be addressed on a federal/national basis, as well as internationally.
.
Good points on the digital controls issue though Cool. I am going to read more about that isse.

Cool, your still a F.S.D.A, you must really beleive every thing that some one tells you? Maybe you should get out of the 1950's, the electrical grid is not running on 1950 power switching technology, it's ran by more complex computers, the kind you know nothing about and will never know about until you quit hanging around or listening to people like Wes J.. People that do not learn on their own will never now any different, so you must be one of them.
You should really get out more often!
What is the difference of exporting power from, beef, grian, or even ethanol? It all takes water but yet it still happens, and Ethenol plants are popping up all over the state and they will use more water then this plants will ever use. And for what?
Think about this Cool, maybe the 'so called',high amounts of CO2 in the atmosphere is actually coming from the population explosion and the rain forests beening cut down and the CO2 is not being absorbed and O2 is being depleted. This could be the more likely truth and the stuff you saying is your normal B.S
Hopefully you have not reproduced?
