Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 27, 1907: “There are some in Topeka who are trying to create a boomlet for T.A. McNeal, present state printer, in a bid as governor. Many think the idea is a good one because of McNeal’s spotless reputation as being ‘straight as a string.’ : With every available fighting man sworn in as a deputy and only 1,200 rounds of ammunition in town, Henryetta, Okla., spent last night fearing and preparing for a deadly race war. It involves the lynching of James Garden, a negro, and many are terribly uneasy about what might transpire. : The drug stores here report unusual activity in sales of wrinkle remover.
