Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 26, 1907: “Ornithological experts in the east warn that many breeds of American game birds are threatened with extinction. Game wardens, including some in our area, have noted alarming decreases of grouse, quail, woodcock, ducks and various shore birds. Sporting will suffer but so will people who rely on such game for food. : Salesmen who have come through here in recent months contend that Kansas men are generally larger than those in most states. They deduced this from the sizes of clothing that are being sought by merchants. : Word comes from Kansas City of a local man who recently was robbed of $120 by pickpockets while riding a street car. Police have made arrests and the man has identified the thieves. The money was recovered. : Northwestern University near Chicago is planning to restore football, which puts Evanston on the map again as far as football fans are concerned.”
