Networks wish you a Merry Christmas

Is it Christmas Day or Groundhog Day? The proliferation of marathons and repeat viewings may leave some viewers wondering.

¢ The Fox Movie Channel presents a 24-hour marathon broadcasting alternating versions of “Miracle on 34th Street” from 5 a.m. this morning through 5 a.m. tomorrow.

¢ The 24-hour “Christmas Story” marathon continues on TBS through 7 p.m.

¢ TV Land continues its merry-thon of Christmas-themed episodes of classic sitcoms through 4 p.m., wrapping up with back-to-back “Good Times” (3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.)

¢ Animal Planet invites critter-lovers to spend the day unwrapping gifts in front of 11 solid hours of “Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom” marathon (8 a.m. to 7 p.m.)

¢ Sci Fi offers fans a chance to catch up with a 23-hour stretch of “Stargate SG-1,” running from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m., Wednesday, taking a curious break for an hour of professional wrestling (9 p.m.).

¢ Feeling stuffed and oversatisfied? Kick back with the “Survivorman” (8 a.m. to 2 a.m., Discovery) marathon.

¢ Anthony Bourdain returns to the Food Network with a six-repeat marathon of “A Cook’s Tour” (8 p.m., Food). New episodes of “Tour” will begin Jan. 8.

¢ Over the past few weeks, I’ve loaded the column with lots of listings of holiday movies and specials because they are unique to this time of year and because readers love them.

In doing so, I have used the words “Christmas” and “Christ” on many occasions. During this time, I have never been contacted by any editor from my syndicate or any copy editor from my newspapers asking me to change or withdraw these words. And not one reader of this column has e-mailed me commenting or complaining about the use of these words. Not one. In fact, in more than 10 years of writing this column and 10 Christmas seasons, this has never occurred. Ever.

I mention this only because the usual suspects on talk radio, certain religious media outlets and on cable news would have you believe that there is a media campaign of political correctness afoot, trying to take the Christmas out of Christmas.

From my experience, that’s complete humbug.

Merry Christmas, everybody.
