Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 24, 1907: “William Jennings Bryan will be the speaker at the regular Sunday meeting of the YMCA. The university has offered the big hall in Robinson Gymnasium for the meeting and it is possible that it will be used because of the eminence of the well-known Mr. Bryan, a Presbyterian and a devoted church man. : Perhaps the meanest man in town is the stingy one who took a number of rural youngsters to a local toy store the other day ‘just to look’ since he had no intentions of buying them anything. The displeasure of many of us is too stern even to be sent through the mails.”
