Hubalek helps Cyclones roll

? Jiri Hubalek notched career highs with 27 points and 15 rebounds, and Iowa State thumped undersized Texas Southern, 79-55, Wednesday night in the second round of the Las Vegas Classic.

Craig Brackins and Rahshon Clark each added 13 points for the Cyclones (6-4), who went on a 28-4 run between the end of the first half and the start of the second and won for the fourth time in five games.

Hubalek, a 6-foot-11 center, had a field day against a Texas Southern team that didn’t start anyone over 6-foot-6. He had 15 points and 11 rebounds in the first half and recorded his seventh career double-double.

The Tigers (1-9), who have lost nine straight, brought only eight players to Ames – and it showed during Iowa State’s decisive run. The Cyclones pushed a 16-point halftime lead to 56-30 just four minutes into the second half, as Hubalek scored six quick points.

Texas Southern climbed back within 58-40 midway through the second half, forcing Iowa State to reinsert its starters. The Tigers got as close as 16 with 6:42 left, but they were never able to mount a serious comeback.

The game lacked any sort of discernible rhythm early on, and Texas Southern was able to hang around for much of the first half. But the Tigers drew a technical when Kevin Abanobi smacked the backboard with both hands after a dunk, and Iowa State responded with a 16-2 run to end the first half.

No. 14 Texas A&M 79, Detroit 39

College Station, Texas – Texas A&M freshman DeAndre Jordan has been good on offense all season. On Wednesday night, he finally got it together on defense. Jordan had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead the 14th-ranked Aggies to a 79-39 victory over Detroit.

It was the third straight victory for the Aggies (10-1) and their most lopsided of the season.

Jordan, who leads the nation in field-goal percentage, missed only the last of his eight shots. He is 46-of-58 (79.3 percent) over his first 11 games.

Baylor 92, South Carolina 84

Columbia, S.C. – Freshman LaceDarius Dunn scored a career-high 24 points, including six of eight from three-point range, as Baylor rallied from 20 points down to beat South Carolina. After finishing the first half on a 16-2 run, Baylor outscored the Gamecocks 19-3 to start the second half.
