Veritas girls roll, boys fall

? Kristie Tiegreen had 30 points, 12 rebounds and four steals, and Veritas Christian defeated Kansas School for the Deaf, 58-12, Tuesday night in high school girls basketball.

Veritas shot 44 percent and made 15 steals while committing just nine turnovers. And Veritas outrebounded KSD, 38-6, while holding KSD to 17 percent shooting.

Meaghan Holmes added eight points and eight rebounds, and Melissa Hardee scored eight points.

“I was real pleased with the intensity and the effort,” Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said. “Our defensive effort was what won this game. Our defensive pressure, controlling the boards the way we did, it was a good night for us.”

Veritas (5-1) was to travel to Independence, Mo., Thursday to face Englewood Christian, but that game was canceled. The Eagles will idle until Jan. 4.

“Part of our demise tonight was our shooting,” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. “We did play well defensively. We just needed to respond with some baskets of our own.”

Jeremiah Johnson led the Eagles with 10 points and added nine rebounds and five steals.

Veritas (2-4) will play Thursday at Englewood Christian in Independence, Mo.
