If you think that scarf you’re mailing to Auntie Fran in St. Louis won’t make it before Christmas Day, think again.

“The true deadline because of the way Christmas falls this year is probably going to be Saturday,” said Lawrence Postmaster Judy Raney.

But that’s sending it Express Mail domestically, so it will arrive at its final destination Sunday or Monday.

There’s a little more leeway with cards and letters. They will make it if they are mailed up until Thursday. But Raney adds, “Some stuff, even mailed on Friday, will even get there on Monday.”

This is the busiest time of the year for the post office, Raney said, but they have been able to maintain the standard of getting mail to its final place in two to three days. Raney said the weather during the next few days shouldn’t pose problems, and the postal service should be able to get cards and packages delivered.
