Reaching out

Sharing with others is the most important message of the Christmas season.

There is no better way to feel the warmth of the holiday season than to reach out to those less fortunate.

Many local residents already have stepped up to make Christmas a little brighter for struggling families in Douglas County, but, according to local social service agencies, many families still are in need of help. On Monday, it was reported that almost 100 families who have sought holiday assistance still are awaiting adoption. Without some additional help these families won’t be able to open presents on Christmas morning or enjoy a special holiday meal.

Obviously, it’s not too late to help. To adopt a family or just make a donation, call the Ballard Community Center, ECKAN or Penn House. The numbers are listed on page 3A of Tuesday’s Journal-World. Even small gifts will add up.

The greatest message of the Christmas season is to share peace and good will with those around us. The Lawrence community is always willing to help, and we’re confident this holiday will be no exception.
