Top 25 Roundup: Vandy rallies past DePaul

? Shan Foster and A.J. Ogilvy came through after struggling most of the night, and No. 20 Vanderbilt rallied for a 91-85 victory over DePaul on Wednesday night to remain undefeated.

At 10-0, Vanderbilt is off to its best start since the 2003-04 team won its first 12. But this one didn’t come easily.

The Commodores trailed 58-40 early in the second half, but came roaring back. They finally tied it at 79 when Ross Neltner whipped a pass to Ogilvy underneath for a layup with 22 seconds left in regulation.

The game went to overtime after DePaul’s Draelon Burns missed a wild baseline jumper in the closing seconds.

Ogilvy’s dunk gave Vanderbilt an 82-81 lead with 3:39 left in the extra period, and Foster’s three-pointer with just more than two minutes remaining made it 85-81.

After Burns’ layup pulled DePaul to 87-85 with 28 seconds left, Ogilvy sprinted the other way for a dunk. Vanderbilt’s Jermaine Beal then hit two free throws to make it 91-85 with 13 seconds left.

The SEC’s top two scorers, Foster and Ogilvy, were non-factors for most of the night, but both finished with 19 points. Burns led DePaul (2-4) with 24 points, while Mac Koshwal scored 21.

No. 17 Xavier 64, Cincinnati 59

Cincinnati – With Xavier missing one of its best front-line players, Derrick Brown led the Musketeers to a painful but satisfying victory over their crosstown rival.

Brown scored 11 points in the final seven minutes, rallying Xavier over Cincinnati. Brown, needed more than ever after senior forward Josh Duncan landed hard and left the game in the second half, put Xavier (8-1) ahead to stay 55-53 on his driving dunk with 2:01 to go.

No. 25 BYU 88, Lamar 66

Provo, Utah – Lee Cummard scored a career-high 27 points, and Brigham Young won for the 36th straight time at home. Trent Plaisted added 22 points, and Jonathan Tavernari scored 11 for the Cougars (8-2), who held a double-digit lead through most of the game. BYU also avenged an overtime loss to the Cardinals (3-6) last December.
