Even though Douglas County had one of the highest deer populations in Kansas, success of hunters had been only modest at best during the fall season here. More deer actually had been killed in the county by motor vehicles than by hunters, officials said.
Lawrence Country Club stockholders agreed at a special meeting to go along with a board of directors decision to delay for further study a proposed $600,000 expansion and renovation project. Financing prospects had to be studied carefully, officials of the club said, before any formal action could be taken.
