Utility crews worked Tuesday to restore power after a winter storm left more than 115,000 Kansas customers without power.

But northern winds of 15 to 20 mph in the west and 10 to 15 mph in the east were complicating the efforts. And although freezing rain moved out of the western part of the state by noon Tuesday, freezing drizzle that fell Tuesday afternoon in eastern and central Kansas was expected to add additional ice to already coated trees and power lines.

Ten electric cooperatives in South Dakota were sending 38 workers and bucket trucks to help restore electricity in Manhattan and Hutchinson.

Several thousands customers already were without power before freezing rain that fell Monday night and early Tuesday left a half inch to an inch of ice across much of central and northeast Kansas, one quarter to one-half inch across much of the southern half of the state, and one-tenth of an inch to a half inch across northwest Kansas.
