Lawrence and several area schools cancel Tuesday classes

Icy winter weather is expected to cause closings and cancellations around northeast Kansas today.

Lawrence public schools will cancel classes Tuesday.

Also canceling school Tuesday are Oskaloosa USD 341, Tonganoxie USD 464, West Franklin USD 287, Central Heights USD 288, Wellsville USD 289, Ottawa USD 290, Baldwin USD 348, Paola USD 368, Garnett USD 365, Osawatomie USD 367, Louisburg USD 416, Perry-Lecompton USD 343, Eudora public schools USD 491, Basehor-Linwood USD 458, McLouth USD 342, Corpus Christi, St. John’s, Community Children’s Center Head Start, Raintree Montessori, Princeton’s Children Center, Veritas Christian School, Sunshine Acres Montessori, Montessori Children’s House, Bishop Seabury Academy, Brookcreek Learning Center, Kids First and Discovery Day Parents Day Out, Montessori Discovery Center, Century School, Prairie Moon School, Green Pastures Preschool, Giving Tree Preschool, and Stepping Stone Child Care Center.

Sunflower Elementary’s after-school homework program, Eagle Watch, is canceled today.

The LHS Choral Concert scheduled for tonight has been canceled.

The Strategic Education Center has canceled all tutoring sessions for today, due to a heating system malfunction.

Due to the threat of inclement weather the All-City Junior High Jazz Band rehearsal at Free State High School has been canceled.

USD 341, Oskaloosa School District has canceled all evening activities.

This afternoon Waukarusa Valley Elementary’s After-School program is canceled. For tomorrow, the Waka Wolf Watch after-school care program meeting has been canceled.

Both Free State Girls’ Camp; Boys’ sophomore basketball games scheduled for this evening have been canceled. The boys’ game is rescheduled for January 12. No date has been set for the girls’ game yet.

The West Junior High 8th grade girls basketball game at Shawnee Heights has been canceled. It will be rescheduled for Thursday afternoon at Southwest Junior High School.

The West Junior High 9th grade girls basketball home game has been canceled. The make up game is pending.

Eudora Schools administrators have decided to cancel the following activities, due to the forecast for severe winter weather.

All activities normally concluding before 6 p.m., including athletics practices, after-school clubs and detentions, will take place as scheduled, unless weather and driving conditions become dangerous earlier than expected.

Community

Tonganoxie library will be closed on Tuesday.

Lawrence Meals on Wheels will not deliver on Tuesday

Douglas County District Court will be closed Tuesday

Douglas County Senior Services canceled meals, services, and transportation for Tuesday.

If Lawrence schools are closed tomorrow, the InterFaith Meeting will postpone its December meeting to January 08.

If the schools are open, the meeting will be held tomorrow, from 1 – 2:30 p.m. at at the Planning and Development Services offices of City Hall in the east corner of Riverfront Plaza.

Kansas Athletics has canceled the Bill Self Roundball Dinner scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Naismith Room at Allen Fieldhouse.

Ballard Community Center is closed Tuesday.

The Advent Tuesday Noonday Organ Recital at Trinity Lutheran Church (Lawrence) will be rescheduled for Thursday, Dec. 13th at 12:15 p.m.

Lawrence Arts Center: All children’s classes canceled Tuesday; adult classes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. canceled. A decision will be made by 1 p.m. for adult evening classes.

The event, hosted by the Williams Educational Fund, will be rescheduled in January. Should the new date conflict with schedules, those who have paid for the event will be refunded.

Douglas County Senior Services, Inc. has cancelled all programs, Meals and Transportation Services for Tuesday.

Trinity Lutheran Church: The Advent Tuesday Noonday Organ Recital is postponed and is rescheduled for Thursday, Dec. 13th at 12:15 p.m.

Tinas critters In Home Daycare will be closed Tuesday.

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department facilities and programs will run as scheduled tonight, except for Youth Sports Basketball practices which have been cancelled. Also all morning classes will be canceled Tuesday.

All recreation and aquatic classes will be rescheduled and participants will be notified of the dates and times.

Lawrence Jazzercise cancels all Tuesday morning classes. A decision about afternoon classes will be ade by 3 p.m.

Independence, Inc. will be closed on Tuesday. Buses will not be running.

All Recreation facilities will also remain open this evening, Dec. 10, but will open to the public at 10 a.m. tomorrow morning, Dec. 11.

The Monday Evening Bible Study at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Community Church is canceled this evening.

Community Works Christmas party planned for tonight at the Topeka Performing Arts Center is rescheduled to Thursday.

St. John’s Catholic Church has canceled Monday Atrium sessions.

The Cookies & Cocoa – Reading Is Fun giveaway that was scheduled for 5 p.m. tonight at New York Elementary has been canceled.

The North Lawrence Improvement Association’s 7 p.m. meeting tonight has been canceled due to the weather. It will be rescheduled later.

Compassionate Friends will not meet tonight. They usually meet at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church.

The Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club Christmas party and meeting that was scheduled for 6:30 p.m. tonight has been canceled.

Lawrence Gymnastics and Athletics is canceling all classes and team practices in both East and West gyms after 6 p.m.
