Jacob Allen, the scouting executive for the Douglas County area of the Boy Scouts of America, completed the final component of basic training for professional leaders last month at the organization’s national headquarters in Irving, Texas. He was joined by 30 other scouting executives from 20 states.

Allen has served as the Pelathe District’s executive for three years and works with 1,200 youth and 300 adults in Douglas County.

¢Astronomy Associates of Lawrence conducted its annual Cub Scout Astronomy Belt Loop presentation Nov. 16. The event was attended by 275 Scouts, family members and leaders, including members of Packs 3462, 3065, 3052, 3370, 3058, 3057, 3055, 3077, 3071, 3056, 3059 and 3072.

In addition to the presentation, all who attended were treated to telescopic views of the moon, the Andromeda galaxy and the Holmes comet.

¢Boy Scouts in Troop 64, chartered to the Eudora Lions Club, traveled to Fort Leavenworth on Nov. 16 for a camping trip.

They hiked the 6-mile Heritage Trail on Nov. 17, seeing historic spots around the fort.

Scouts attending were Matt Jones, Lyle Howell, Steven Wimmer and Nathan Gentleman. They were accompanied by Scoutmaster Glenn Jackson and adult leaders Duane Gentleman, Jim Morrison, Matt Jones, Roy Wimmer and John Scott.
