Closed-door settlement to be finalized Monday

Answers about what went on in a closed-door executive session by city commissioners will have to wait until Monday.

City attorneys earlier this week agreed to turn over documents that were submitted to the Kansas attorney general for an investigation into a closed-door session regarding economic development incentives for Deciphera Pharmaceuticals.

But city leaders said they wouldn’t turn over the documents until a final settlement on an open meetings violation by commissioners was signed by Attorney General Paul Morrison. That settlement didn’t get signed by Morrison on Friday because he was out of the office, City Attorney Jerry Cooley said.

Cooley said he anticipates the settlement – which required commissioners to receive training on the open meetings law – to be finalized Monday.

The documents include sworn statements from all commissioners about what was discussed in the closed-door session.
