Baldwin falls to rival Louisburg, 70-69

? Trailing by 16 heading into the fourth quarter, Baldwin High’s boys basketball team rallied and took the lead with 10 seconds to play, but lost 70-69 Friday in the round-robin Louisburg tourney.

Brandon Tommer led Baldwin (2-1) with 20 points. Drew Berg added 15 and Clad Kueffer 14.

Louisburg improved to 4-0.

Perry-Lecompton 60, Maranatha 44

Perry – Juniors Shane Gimzo and Kyle Morgison combined for 38 points in Perry-Lecompton’s victory over Maranatha.

P-L improved to 3-0 for the first time since the 1981-82 season.

Wamego 73, Santa Fe Trail 50

Wamego – Joseph Burgett scored 16 in a losing cause. Santa Fe Trail (0-2) will play host to Perry-Lecompton on Tuesday.

Girls

Louisburg 49, Baldwin 38

Louisburg – Tracie Weege was the lone Baldwin player in double-digit scoring with 14 points in a setback to the hosts at the round-robin Louisburg Tournament.

Louisburg improved to 4-0, while BHS fell to 1-2.

Perry-Lecompton 49, Maranatha 16

Perry – Perry-Lecompton’s girls basketball team forced Maranatha Academy into 21 turnovers in the Kaws’ victory.

Senior Jamie Fuller scored 15 points, while junior Megan Elder had 12 rebounds and six points for the Kaws, 1-2.

“The shots we’d been missing dropped tonight,” P-L coach Mark Armstrong said. “Jamie had a great night. She busted it open against their zone with three 3s. She played on defense as well.

“It’s our first win. We’re happy whatever the score is,” he added of a rout in which P-L led 22-5 at half and 37-7 after three quarters.

P-L will travel Tuesday to Santa Fe Trail

Tonganoxie 47, Eudora 43

Paola – Elizabeth Baska and Shannon Carlin scored 14 points apiece as Tonganoxie tripped Eudora, 47-43, in the finals of the Paola High Tournament.

Tonganoxie improved to 3-1.
