Uninspiring field

To the editor:

After viewing multiple Democratic and Republican presidential debates, I must admit that I’m about as excited over the 2008 presidential election as I would be in visiting my dentist for multiple root canals.

With that said, I keep telling myself that former Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry Truman were not highly touted prior to becoming president and yet went on to make America proud.

In this writer’s humble opinion, Sen. Hillary Clinton, New York, has the potential to be a strong advocate for American workers, middle America and less fortunate Americans. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani seems to be well equipped to protect America from domestic and world terrorism.

The two mentioned presidential candidates become more appealing if their selection of vice-presidential candidates involves a prudent and well-thought-out process. For example, Sen. John McCain, Arizona, and Gov. Bill Richardson, New Mexico, have oodles of experience, and both men have displayed abilities to work well with both Democrats and Republicans.

But what do I know? While I do have a political science degree, my only foray into politics, while quite educational, was most humbling.
