Obama tallied 692 votes out of 1,904 votes cast for 36.3 percent. The poll was held this week and ended last night.
Second place went to U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton with 504 votes, or 26.5 percent. Former senator John Edwards had 355 votes or 18.6 percent.
After Edwards came U.S. Sen. Joe Biden, 6.8 percent; U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich, 6 percent; New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, 4.7 percent; U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd, 0.7 percent and former U.S. Sen. Mike Gravel, 0.3 percent.
The state Democratic Party plans to have its party caucuses on Feb. 5.

I just don't think he is the best candidate. The big sticking point in the general election is he will raise taxes ALOT.
The best thing about Hilary is she already has the skelitons out of the closet. She strong on the enviroment, she's election tough, (remember Obama has won one statewide election, and that was against late fill-in Allan Keys.)
He is just to far left for a general election against the moderate like Rudi.

So, when someone who connects himself with a hate group begins to spout off on things that suggest, or even hint, at racism, it isn't too much of a stretch to read it as actually being racist.

Why would one make such a comment? Maybe to point out that Senator Obama's middle name is the same as the former dictator of Iraq? Maybe to try to say that this makes him less American than say someone named “Bob Jones”? Seems peculiar…..and prejudice…..and racist.

I don't think conservatives or liberals (whether the hell that means), have anything to do with America's social, economic, or political problems. Instead, its simple-minded partisan rhetoric that prevents change in the grey areas between “liberal” and “conservative” where most Americans find themselves. Partisan dogma distorts the political process and prevents constructive change.

To Whom It May Concern:
As you might have seen, vicious smears are being circulated in anonymous emails attacking Senator Obama's patriotism. These accusations are outrageous. As retired generals in the U.S. military and civilians who have served at the highest levels in the Department of Defense, we know something about patriotism, and Senator Obama is one of the most deeply patriotic Americans we know.
What makes Senator Obama patriotic?
We admire his long record of public service. Over the last two decades, he has served the American people as a community organizer, a civil rights lawyer, constitutional law professor, a state senator, and a U.S. senator.
We also admire his strong support for our troops and veterans. As a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs, he has fought to improve care for wounded troops, slash red tape, and reform the disability review process. He also passed legislation to combat homelessness among veterans. As President, he will expand housing vouchers, and launch a new supportive services housing program for at-risk veterans and their families. In addition, he will improve mental health screening and treatment at all levels: from enlistment, to deployment, to reentry into civilian life.
Above all, we admire Senator Obama's courage in putting his convictions ahead of his political prospects by opposing the war in Iraq from the start. In 2002, Obama said the Iraq War could lead to an occupation of “undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences.” Today, he's showing the same good judgment by fighting to responsibly end the Iraq War and by standing up to the rush to war with Iran, including opposing the Kyl-Lieberman amendment that would provide cover for an attack on Iran.
Senator Obama's personal history represents the best of the American Dream. His grandfather fought in Patton's army and went to school on the GI Bill. His grandmother worked on a bomber assembly line during World War II. His father crossed an ocean in search of the promise of America. And his mother taught him that America has a place for everyone's dreams.
Senator Obama's attackers are peddling lies and smears because they disagree with his strong opposition to the war in Iraq and the rush to war in Iran. They know that as President, Barack Obama will end the ugly, divisive, slash-and-burn style of politics that they have mastered. To all those trying desperately to discredit Senator Obama's patriotism, take it from us: we have served this nation for decades, and we know a true patriot when we see one. Barack Obama is a patriot. America needs him now.
Sincerely,
Gen. Merrill “Tony” McPeak, USAF (Ret)
Maj. Gen. J. Scott Gration, USAF (Ret)

burlington, Iowa (AP) - Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois complained on Wednesday about an Internet photo that claims the Democratic presidential candidate didn't hold his hand over his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance.
“This is so irritating,” Obama said when asked about the photo in Muscatine, Iowa.
The photo, which has circulated widely on the Internet, was taken in September during Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin's annual Democratic fundraiser. A message accompanying the photo claims Obama didn't observe the pledge.
Obama said the photo was taken during singing of the national anthem, not the pledge.
“During the Pledge of Allegiance you put your hand over your heart. During the national anthem you sing,” he said.
A woman who received an e-mail about the photo asked Obama about it Tuesday night during a town hall meeting in Cedar Rapids.
“This is the classic dirty trick of the campaign,” Obama said.
He advised the woman to tell the sender of the e-mail the real story. “You don't have to curse them out, just tell them they've got their facts wrong,” he said.

Ol' times there are not forgotten,
Whuppin' slaves and pickin' cotton,

Oh, poll tax, how I love ya, how I love ya,
My dear old poll tax.
Won'tcha come with me to Alabammy,
Back to the arms of my dear ol' Mammy,
Her cookin's lousy and her hands are clammy,
But what the hell, it's home.
Yes, for paradise the Southland is my nominee.
Jes' give me a ham hock and a grit of hominy.
I wanna go back to Dixie
I wanna be a dixie pixie
And eat cornpone 'til it's comin' outta my ears
I wanna talk with Southern gentlemen
And put my white sheet on again,
I ain't seen one good lynchin' in years.
The land of the boll weevil,
Where the laws are medieval,
Is callin' me to come and evermore roam.
I wanna go back to the Southland,

Be it ever so decadent,
There's no place like home.

I really don't know the importance of straw polls for democarts in Kansas that even if he won the primary, no way does any dem. win the state.
That's why I don't know the importance of the South Carolina primary for Obama. It's not like any dem. can win that state. I like Iowa being the starting point, because that switches hands alot in general elections. I also always thought if HRC wins Iowa Caucus, she was a lock for the nomination. Still do, but that might be a close one.

I think it would make politics more interesting if the winner of the electoral vote were made president, and, unless the two were the same, the winner of the popular vote were made VP; otherwise, the second place vote getter would be VP. I could envision Obama as President and Huckabee as VP in that scenario. Wouldn't that be fun?

In the interest of full disclosure, Godot… my gums aren't the best, but they're not bad. I floss most every night, and I use Listerine, the citrus flavor. My dentist said to go ahead and cut it 1:1 with water, though… I don't need it full strength.
To clarify about Obama, though: He has healthy-looking gums for a guy his age **who has been smoking for several years.**
I can't say for certain that ciggies harm your gums… but neither have I heard about the Marlboro Therapy for Gingivitis.

So putting a hand over your heart determines your patriotism, and not your actions? That's like believing that accepting Jesus is the only thing you need to go to heaven, not good deeds. More shallowness. Appearances are everything, deeds are nothing. Why not go for more substance? Why not look at what politicians have done or not done? Will they uphold the constitution and our laws? Do they lie and keep secrets from the American people? My main question to all the candidates is: When and for what reasons would you ever use executive privilege to withhold information that should be shared with the people you represent, or with duly elected officials? The candidate that answers “never” has my vote.

http://urbanlegends.about.com/library…
“That anyone, let alone a sitting U.S. senator with designs on the highest office in the land, would conceal being a Muslim for twenty-odd years while going through the outward motions of practicing Christianity (or vice-versa, for that matter) is a truly bizarre accusation. I'd be tempted to dismiss it as paranoid lunacy if it weren't so obviously a crass, politically-motivated smear.”

stand: You tell me you hate “c***s” like me, and then tell me to leave your mother out of it. Too funny. There are simply too many jokes to be made about you, your mother and “c***s.”
Seriously, if someone quotes from and provides a link to a white supremacist site, that is a pretty good indication that the person is a racist. Do you really think it is okay to do such a thing? Really? This is from where my comments about racism stem, not just the comments about Obama.
As far as racism, or sexism, goes, liberals like me have been calling people on their b.s. since before the '70s and '80s. Why do you think things aren't as bad as they once were? Do you think things have changed because of the conservative mindset? Hardly. It took liberal thought to change things, not the thought of those who wanted to “conserve” the status quo. They are called “conservatives” for a reason. Are you really so dim that you can't see that?

If I use the term “spamboy,” and then you choose to self-identify with that name, don't blame me. How can you tell I wasn't talking about somebody else?

stand: Are you retarded? This is an honest question. If you actually think I would use the “n” word in front of you or anyone else (or at all, for that matter), then the only thing I can consider is that you actually have mental retardation. As far as how long I have been paying attention to politics, like I said before, it predates the '90s by a few decades.
Further, if you are going to attend these web conversations, please work on your grammar. It is truly atrocious. For example, consider your sentence, “Bozo your a idiot.”
The word “your” is indicating the posessive of “you” — as in, “This is your book. This is your pen. This is your pointed head.”
For the contraction of “you are,” as in, “You are retarded,” use “you're.” It should read, “You're retarded.”
Further, when using “a” before a word starting with a vowel, you should also use an “n.” Thus it isn't “You are a idiot,” but rather “You are an idiot.”
So, your insult should have been written as, “Bozo, you are an idiot.” An insult of another's intelligence usually has a better chance of hitting the mark if you use grammar above a sixth-grade level … unless, of course, you actually are in the sixth grade, which would explain a great deal.
Here is a tip: It often helps if you read the sentence out loud before you commit to sending the message. Many common grammatical errors can be eliminated by this simple rule.
Geez, didn't your mother teach you anything?

first of all, no no no. ted kennedy is the one that killed that woman in a car accident. wrong kennedy.
secondly, it's ridiculous that people would vote for someone because their husband was president. my dad works in city government; it does not mean i'm qualified to be the mayor of a large city just because i heard my dad talking about that stuff.
thirdly, i really want a female president…some day. but i'm not going to vote for every woman who runs just because she's a she. that's not a reason…or at least, not a good reason, to vote for someone.
