Kansas football coach Don Fambrough was fired by Athletic Director Monte Johnson, ending speculation about Fambrough’s status following the Jayhawks’ 2-7-2 season. Johnson, only recently named athletic director to succeed Bob Marcum, said the move was necessary “in order to re-establish confidence in our football program.” Fambrough was 60 and had been in his second stint as KU coach. He earlier had resigned after a run-in with Athletic Director Clyde Walker but was rehired by Marcum to follow the ousted Bud Moore.
