K-State wins despite 16-0 run by UTEP

? Shalee Lehning had 11 points and 13 rebounds to help Kansas State overcome a sluggish start in the second half and beat UTEP, 66-58, in the championship game of the Wildcat Classic on Saturday.

Kansas State, which won the tournament for the 10th time in 13 years, led 40-29 at halftime but went scoreless for nearly nine minutes after the break. In their first 15 possessions of the second half, the Wildcats had 10 turnovers and missed nine straight shots.

During that stretch, the Miners went on a 16-0 run to take a 45-40 lead when Jareica Hughes made a fast-break layup.

Ashley Sweat finally ended Kansas State’s scoring drought when she converted a three-point play with 11:04 remaining. Sweat scored 17 points and Kimberly Dietz added 14 for the Wildcats, who won their 200th game in Bramlage Coliseum.

Natasha Lacy had 18 points and Hughes scored 17 for the Miners, who hit only three field goals in the final 10 minutes.

Lehning, who also had 12 assists in a semifinal victory over Lipscomb, was named tournament’s most valuable player. Sweat, Dietz, Lacy and Hughes were the other four members of the all-tournament team.

Missouri 70, Texas State 61

Columbia, Mo. – Shakara Jones scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Missouri.

Alyssa Hollins added 18 points, and Amanda Hanneman had 13 for Missouri, while Toy Richbow had 10 rebounds.

Joyce Ekworomadu had 16 points, and Ashley Cole scored 15 for Texas State.

Texas Tech 89, Washington St. 45

Columbia, Mo. – Stanecia Graham scored 19 for Tech.
