Historic sites adjust hours for winter

Kansas’ 16 historic sites – including Lecompton’s Constitution Hall – will switch to winter hours starting today.

Constitution Hall will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. That schedule will remain in effect through Feb. 29.

Other sites that will observe the same hours: Mine Creek Battlefield Museum near Pleasanton; William Allen White House in Emporia; Shawnee Indian Mission in Fairway; and the Native American Heritage Museum near Highland.

The changes allow staff to work more closely with schools and community organizations during the winter months and allow for planning and program development, according to the Kansas Historical Society.

Some historic sites are open more hours all year. Among them is the John Brown Museum in Osawatomie.
