Around and about
Three area students were among those honored in the American Institute of Architects’ Topeka Riverfront design competition.
Larabeth Thompson and Eleanor Burke, of Kansas University, won first place in the college division for their “Topeka Silo Park” entry. They received $1,500.
Quentin Harrington, Law-rence, took first place in the kindergarten through sixth-grade category for his “All About Topeka” proposal. Quentin received $250.
As part of the institute’s 150th anniversary this year, local chapters are conducting design competitions that address the livability and vibrancy of their cities. The AIA 150 Topeka Riverfront design competition asked students to come up with a “big idea” for Topeka’s riverfront. A group of 30 local architects and city leaders judged the entries.
