Owen Wilson in good condition at hospital

Santa Monica, Calif. – Owen Wilson was reported in good condition Monday, a day after he was taken from his home by ambulance, a hospital spokeswoman said.

“I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time,” the 38-year-old actor said in a statement released through publicist Ina Treciokas.

No further comments were expected, she said.

Wilson was at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, said hospital spokeswoman Cynthia Harding. He was initially taken to St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica.

He “is here in good condition,” Harding said.

It wasn’t known why Wilson was hospitalized, but a neighbor said a police car, fire truck and ambulance were outside the actor’s gated house about noon Sunday.

Santa Monica Fire Battalion Chief Jose Torres said Monday the department responded to a call that involved Wilson. The chief wouldn’t comment on Wilson’s injuries or condition, citing federal privacy laws.

Ashton Kutcher offers advice on how to dress

New York – Since leaving the trucker hat behind – and marrying Demi Moore – Ashton Kutcher’s fashion sense has taken a turn for the better.

Kutcher, the face of 2003’s trucker hat fad, dispenses sartorial tips for couples in an essay in the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine, now on newsstands.

“Guys don’t like to be told they look nice, pretty or cute or that they clean up well,” the 29-year-old actor says.

“So when your guy finally tries on something that you like, tell him that he looks like James Bond or Tony Montana,” he writes. “Feel free to be even more vague than that: ‘Wow, that suit makes you look like that hot football player!'”

Kutcher, who got his break on Fox network’s “That ’70s Show,” is often photographed on the arm of the stylish Moore, 44. The couple wed in September 2005.

“Trust me, say any of this and you won’t be able to get him to take the damn suit off,” he says. “Before you know it, he’ll be wearing an Armani tux to league night at the bowling alley.”

Jackie Chan re-injures back while shooting film

Hong Kong – Jackie Chan suffered back pain while wrapping up filming of “The Forbidden Kingdom,” his first collaboration with Jet Li.

Chan said in his Web blog that he aggravated an old back injury when shooting scenes last week in China that required him to throw someone upward.

The 53-year-old Hong Kong actor said he was “in excruciating pain” when he woke up the next day, and “could barely get myself out of my bed.”

Chan said he also felt pain when filming scenes with Li.

“I had to walk down three steps and join Jet Li for one scene, and each time my feet hit the steps, pain shot through my back,” he said.

He said the pain had persisted for at least two days.

A separate statement Monday on Chan’s Web site said the action star is “recovering nicely.”

Few support effort to oust sheriff

Los Angeles – More than two months after it was initiated, an effort to remove Sheriff Lee Baca from office because of his handling of Paris Hilton’s jail sentence has gained scant support.

Andrew Ahlering, the former county employee behind the campaign to relieve Baca of his post, said he had gathered just 40 of the nearly 400,000 signatures needed by December to get a recall measure on the ballot.

Ahlering, who accused the Los Angeles sheriff of giving Hilton preferential treatment by allowing her to return home after serving less than four days of a 23-day jail sentence, also said he had raised less than $100 for the campaign.

The recall petition accuses Baca of giving favorable treatment to celebrities and of “gross mismanagement of the largest jail system in the United States.”

A Baca spokesman said Ahlering’s difficulty generating enthusiasm for the campaign is evidence the sheriff has the public’s support.

Hulk Hogan’s son OK after car crash

Clearwater, Fla. – Hulk Hogan’s son was released from the hospital Monday, a day after a car crash that critically injured his passenger, authorities said.

A Toyota Supra driven by Hogan’s 17-year-old son, Nick Bollea, was traveling at a high rate of speed at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Clearwater Police spokesman Wayne Shelor said. Bollea lost control and hit a raised median. The car, shown above after the crash, flipped around, and the back end hit a palm tree.

Police identified Bollea’s passenger as 22-year-old John J. Graziano of Dunedin. He remained in critical condition Monday at Bayfront Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.

“Nick is currently at the hospital with John and his family,” Bollea’s mother, Linda Hogan, said in a statement. “His sole concern is for the well-being of his friend. On behalf of my family, we ask that your thoughts and prayers be with John and his loved ones.”

The crash occurred on SR 60, which is a main drag through downtown Clearwater. Alcohol isn’t believed to have played a part in the crash. Shelor said the crash remains under investigation.
