Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 28, 1907: “There still are no details about the headless, decomposed corpse found in the attic of Pancake School at Overbrook. Some believe it could be a woman. : Plans for the new engineering building at the university, to be built at a cost of about $150,000, have been released. The general appearance will be similar to that of the new gymnasium – with native rock trimmed with Silverdale white limestone. : Acting on complaints, Dr. S.J. Crumbine, secretary of the state health board, was here yesterday to test the city waterworks and the water. There is talk the local water contains too many germs due to decayed animal matter.”
