Ex-Woodlands manager arrested in Miami

The former general manager of Wyandotte County’s dog and horse racing park has turned himself in to face felony charges, Attorney General Paul Morrison’s office said Friday.

James Gartland is in custody in Florida. Morrison charged him Wednesday in Wyandotte County with seven crimes, alleging that Gartland allowed Woodlands customers to bet without paying, falsified records and made false financial entries.

Customs officials detained Gartland on Thursday night at Miami International Airport. He remained in Florida on Friday, awaiting extradition to Kansas, the attorney general’s office said.
