Because of budget cuts and increasing enrollments, a number of Kansas University students interested in computer courses for the coming fall term were unable to be accommodated.

The city’s Downtown Improvement Committee ranked a Chicago developer as its first choice to undertake a redevelopment project in the downtown. The firm was Link Programs, which had just completed a downtown project in Iowa City, Iowa, where committee members had visited for a survey and evaluation.

Movie star Charlton Heston was in town to promote his new film, “Mother Lode,” and officials said the presence here of a film crew for the made-for-TV movie, “The Day After,” had been one of the attractions for Heston.

The investigation into an armed robbery at Capitol Federal Savings, 1025 Iowa, had been turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, but to date no suspects had been located.
