Bill Murray admits to drinking, driving cart

Stockholm, Sweden – Bill Murray could face a drunken driving charge after cruising through downtown Stockholm in a golf cart and refusing to take a breath test, citing U.S. law.

Police officers spotted the “Caddyshack” star early Monday in the slow-moving vehicle and noticed he smelled of alcohol when they pulled him over, said Detective-Inspector Christer Holmlund of the Stockholm police.

“He refused to blow in the (breath test) instrument, citing American legislation,” Holmlund told The Associated Press on Wednesday. “So we applied the old method – a blood test. It will take 14 days before the results are in.”

Murray, who had been at a golf tournament in Sweden, signed a document admitting that he was driving under the influence, and agreed to let a police officer plead guilty for him if the case goes to court, Holmlund said.

“Then he was let go. My guess is he went back to America,” Holmlund said.

He said the 56-year-old actor-comedian would only be charged if tests show his blood alcohol level exceeded the legal limit, which is quite low in Sweden.

A very high alcohol level could lead to a prison sentence, but Holmlund said fines were more likely.

Colbert to auction cast

New York – Stephen Colbert will auction the cast that helped mend his broken left wrist to benefit the Yellow Ribbon Fund.

The cast will be auctioned on eBay after tonight’s “The Colbert Report,” Comedy Central said Wednesday. It has been signed by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, CBS “Evening News” anchor Katie Couric, NBC “Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams, Fox News “The O’Reilly Factor” host Bill O’Reilly, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., NBC “Meet the Press” host Tim Russert and White House Press Secretary Tony Snow.

Bids will be accepted until Sept. 3, with the winner to be announced the week of Sept. 10 on the “Report,” which airs at 10:30 p.m. CDT Monday through Thursday. Proceeds will go to the Yellow Ribbon Fund, a charity that assists injured service members and their families.

“If I had known that it would give me the opportunity to help our wounded veterans, I would have shattered my triquetrum a long time ago,” Colbert, 43, said in a statement.

Foxy Brown jailed, reveals she’s pregnant

New York – Foxy Brown was hauled off to jail Wednesday after a judge revoked her probation.

The 27-year-old rapper was accused of violating the terms of her release after she was arrested earlier this month on charges she smacked her neighbor with her cell phone. Authorities said Brown also skipped her anger management classes and traveled out of the city without permission.

“She has an air of entitlement about her,” city Department of Probation lawyer Matilde Leo said at a hearing in Manhattan Criminal Court. “Probation is a privilege, not a right. … She has finally abused that privilege to the point of no return.”

Judge Melissa Jackson ordered Brown jailed until her next hearing on Sept. 7.

Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, was on probation for attacking two manicurists at a nail salon in 2004. She was arrested Aug. 14 on charges of assaulting Arlene Raymond, 25, on July 30 after the pair got into a fight over Brown blasting her car stereo near her home in Brooklyn.

Brown’s lawyer, state Sen. John Sampson, argued that it wasn’t necessary to send her back to jail. He told the judge the case against Brown in Brooklyn was weak, and that Brown is three months’ pregnant. He said Brown has turned her life around with her pregnancy, wedding plans and deals for a new album and reality television show.

Paris Hilton settles defamation lawsuit

Los Angeles – Paris Hilton can scratch her next court date from her calendar.

A settlement in a $10 million defamation lawsuit was reached Wednesday between the hotel heiress-reality TV star and diamond heiress-actress Zeta Graff.

The trial was set to start Monday.

In the suit, Graff claimed that Hilton spread “vicious lies” about her to the media in 2005.

Both sides reached an “amicable resolution,” but the details were kept confidential, according to a statement released by Graff’s attorney, Bruce Broillet.

“Both parties are glad that the matter could be resolved without the time and expense of a trial,” the statement read.

Winehouse postpones more tour dates

New York – Amy Winehouse has put her North American tour on hold, raising more concerns about her health.

“Due to the rigors involved in touring, Amy Winehouse has been advised to postpone her upcoming September U.S. and Canadian tour dates,” the British singer’s publicist, Tracy Miller, said in a statement.

“Amy’s European and U.K. tour dates in October and November remain in place. Plans are being made to reschedule her U.S. tour for early 2008. Until then, Amy has been ordered to rest and is working with medical professionals to address her health.”

Last week, it was announced that the 23-year-old was canceling all her August performances due to “severe exhaustion.” While British tabloids have claimed the retro-soul singer has been in rehab due to drug abuse, her spokeswoman has denied such claims.

Winehouse was scheduled to appear at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 9 in Las Vegas, but it is unclear if she will be on hand for the event.
