Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 21, 1907: “There continues to be debate, fueled by Topeka newspapers, that William Quantrill still lives. However, there is total evidence he is long dead. : Fifty counties in Kansas sent no prisoners to the state penitentiary the past year. Douglas County was among them and Wyandotte County led with 20. There were 207 in all with the total cost running about $4,700 for expenses, guards and room and board. : Considerable plaster has fallen in the main auditorium at the university the past two days, much of it around the big pipe organ. It is thought that the constant vibrations from the huge organ weakened the plaster causing the fall.”
