Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 18, 1907: “Thirty-five fancy Berkshire hogs sold for the surprisingly large sum of $3,505 at the great Sutton sale here yesterday. The average price was $100 and buyers came from all over the country. : The suit against the L.H. Perkins family holding up a $100,000 insurance payment has been dismissed and the family will get the money with the companies paying the costs. At issue has been whether the recent death was an accident or suicide. : A warrant was sworn out this morning for “Aunt Jane” Williams charging her with contempt of the court for selling liquor in violation of an injunction that forbids her to do so. She currently is ill at her home. She will either have to put up $600 in bail or be taken to jail as soon as a doctor says she can get out of bed.”
