Cox tossed for record 132nd time

Braves 5, Giants 4

Atlanta – Bobby Cox, Atlanta’s cantankerous manager, was tossed after the fifth for arguing a called third strike on Chipper Jones – the 132nd ejection of his career to break the mark originally set by Hall of Famer John McGraw.

Astros 7, Dodgers 4

Los Angeles – Chris Burke capped a six-run sixth inning with a two-run single.

Phillies 3, Nationals 2

Washington – Russell Branyan’s pinch-hit, two-run homer keyed an eighth inning rally. With the win, the Phillies kept the heat on the New York Mets in the NL East.

Padres 8, Rockies 0

San Diego – Rookie Kevin Kouzmanoff homered and hit a two-run single during the six-run second inning, carrying Greg Maddux and San Diego over erratic Jeff Francis and Colorado.

Mets 5, Pirates 4

Pittsburgh – Moises Alou’s two-run single in the eighth inning put New York ahead. Carlos Beltran, who doubled to set up the two-run eighth, hit a solo homer and drove in two.

Cardinals 12, Brewers 4

Milwaukee – St. Louis scored six runs in the fifth inning to rally past Milwaukee, spoiling the Brewers’ 1982 World Series team reunion.

Marlins 14, Diamondbacks 5

Miami – Dontrelle Willis earned his first win since May 29, striking out 11 in seven innings and letting the Marlins’ bats do the rest.

Reds 6, Cubs 5

Chicago – Aaron Harang allowed four hits, including three homers, but still outpitched Carlos Zambrano as Cincinnati sent Chicago to its seventh loss in nine games.
