Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 13, 1907: “A.J. Griffin, one of the pioneer businessmen of this city, died at his home after an illness of only three days. Mr. Griffin was for a long time a director of the Lawrence National Bank. He was a Civil War veteran and was born in Virginia. : The home of J. Frank Davis at 433 Illinois was quarantined for diphtheria yesterday. His three children are suffering from sore throats and the doctor thought a quarantine was in order until he can be sure of the illness with hit epidemic proportions here and claimed many lives here last fall.”
