White Sox sneak past Tribe in 13

White Sox 6, Indians 4 (13)

Chicago – Juan Uribe hit a two-run homer off Aaron Fultz in the bottom of the 13th inning Wednesday to lead the White Sox.

Scott Podsednik singled with one out in the 13th and Uribe lined a ball over the wall in left center, his 12th homer of the season.

Fultz (3-2) took the loss and Jose Contreras (6-14), making his first regular-season relief appearance since 2003 while with the New Y ork Yankees, got the victory by pitching two innings.

A.J. Pierzynski homered to tie the game leading off the bottom of the 12th against Indians closer Joe Borowski, who suffered his fourth blown save in 35 chances.

Cleveland took the lead in the top of the 12th after Uribe couldn’t hold Kenny Lofton’s pop to shallow left – ruled an error – as pinch-runner Josh Barfield scored to give Cleveland a 4-3 lead.

Ryan Garko singled off Contreras to start the 12th, Asdrubal Cabrera sacrificed and after Grady Sizemore fouled out, Lofton lofted the pop behind third. Uribe raced back, the ball hit his glove and popped out.

Jermaine Dye tied the game at 3 in the eighth with a solo homer off Indians reliever Rafael Betancourt.

C.C. Sabathia, bidding for his 15th victory, allowed six hits and two runs, walked three and struck out six in seven innings, leaving with a 3-2 lead.

The White Sox, held to two hits on Tuesday night by Jake Westbrook and Borowski, had three in the third inning off Sabathia. Toby Hall and Josh Fields doubled to tie the game at 1 before Paul Konerko hit an RBI single.

Devil Rays 7, Tigers 1

Detroit – Dioner Navarro had three hits, including a two-run homer, and Tampa Bay snapped an eight-game road losing streak.

Navarro, who homered Tuesday night, is now hitting .201, the first time he is above .200 since May 15. Delmon Young and Carlos Pena both drove in two runs in Tampa Bay’s third win in its last 22 road games.

Blue Jays 15, Yankees 4

Toronto – Vernon Wells had four RBIs and Roy Halladay struck out eight over seven innings for Toronto.

Frank Thomas added three RBIs for the Blue Jays, who have won nine of their past 11 home games. Wells finished 3-for-4 and scored twice.

Mariners 8, Orioles 4

Baltimore – Jose Vidro homered and drove in four runs and Ichiro Suzuki had three hits for Seattle.

Athletics 6, Rangers 3

Arlington, Texas – Rob Bowen is with his third team this season, and he’s finally getting accustomed to his new surroundings with the Oakland Athletics.

Bowen homered from both sides of the plate for his first career multihomer game and Lenny DiNardo gave up three runs over six innings for the Athletics.

Bowen had only 10 at-bats and four starts for the A’s entering Wednesday’s game, and he’s been anxious for more action.

“It feels good to get out there,” Bowen said. “It’s been tough moving around. I’ve gotten into a routine and I’m beginning to feel comfortable.”

With the game tied at 3, Bowen homered leading off the seventh against reliever A.J. Murray (0-1) to break a 3-for-39 slump. It was Bowen’s first homer and RBI since he was acquired by Oakland in a trade with the Chicago Cubs on July 16.

Bowen, who started the season with the San Diego Padres, added a two-run shot in the eighth off right-hander Wes Littleton for a 6-3 lead.
