From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 9, 1907: “The county board of examiners has finished the grading of papers from the county teachers’ examination and certificates today will be awarded to 52 who have passed the tests and are eligible to teach here. : Potato raisers in the Kaw Valley are reaping a rich harvest this summer. The yield has been as large or even larger than average while the price has been unprecedentedly high. Local farmers are likely to net more than $50,000 in profit. : The Bell Bros. Piano Co. makes 200 pianos a year and still cannot supply the heavy demand for its fine products.”
