Scott Rothschild, staff writer for the Lawrence Journal-World, won first place in the nation for Statehouse reporting from the Capitolbeat, the Association of Capitol Reporters and Editors.

Rothschild won for his reporting on Kansas politics and government, including the 2006 “Kansas Crossroads” series, which examined major statewide needs and asked gubernatorial candidates to respond to those issues.

“Scott’s comprehensive reporting on Kansas government and politics is known throughout the state. Now he is being recognized nationally for his outstanding work,” said Dennis Anderson, Journal-World managing editor.

Rothschild won in the beat reporting category for newspapers under 75,000 circulation.

Capitolbeat awards were announced Saturday in Philadelphia at the group’s annual conference.
