Lawrence continued to show a blistering building pace for the year. City hall issued a record $2,378,710 in building permits for July, the highest figure ever recorded for the month. Permits issued from January through July already totaled nearly $7.9 million compared to only about $7.5 million for all of 1966. The 1965 record of $9.3 million, for the whole year, appeared well within reach with five months left in 1967.
