Old Home Town – 100 years ago
From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 5, 1907: “Local officers paid an unwelcome call on the Star Club at 913 Mass. and found 12 cases of beer. The cook and manager were arrested. The same evening, the lodge room of the Eagles Club in Emporia was also raided and police found an ice box full of bottled beer on ice. No arrests were made, however. : The Christian Church will celebrate with groundbreaking for their new building at the corner of Kentucky and Berkley streets. A special prayer service is planned and the public is invited. : Kansas fishermen who have illegally been using nets are more and more encountering game wardens who penalize them when they are out of line. There has been a lot of trouble over around Leavenworth.”
