Ask the Pro

Dear Pro,

Never let it be said that Kansas is flat. Because when it comes to the golf courses around here, I seem to hit every hill in play. Other than staying away from these annoying obstacles, do you have any advice to help me hit better shots when my ball is above or below my feet?

– Bill, Lawrence

Bill,

When the ball’s below your feet, it will tend to go right. You have to adjust your alignment and your club selection. Use more club for confidence and balance. Once you gain your balance, swing down your intended target line, aiming slightly left.

Hitting an uphill ball is the opposite. The ball will curve left. Make sure to gain your balance, then take a flatter swing, almost like a baseball swing. Aim right and let it fly.
