Area teachers to help Greensburg classrooms

Members of Kansas Alpha Delta Kappa from northeast Kansas have traveled to Greensburg to help elementary teachers prepare classrooms for the fall semester.

Joyce Perkins, a Lawrence resident who teaches at Williams Science and Fine Arts Magnet School in Topeka, is the Kansas president of the honorary international sorority. Five other teachers and a teacher’s sister have made the trip to Greensburg to volunteer today.

Perkins said the volunteers will work during the day to help wash chairs and cabinets and prepare rooms in the portable classrooms at Greensburg Elementary School.

Members across the state have donated about $400 to give to Greensburg teachers to spend on their classrooms, Perkins said.
