Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 2, 1907: “Dr. F.H. Snow of the university has had a harrowing summer, once barely escaping death when bitten by a rattlesnake while on his entomological expedition for the university in New Mexico. He managed to recover and returned with some 15,000 specimens that are invaluable in the study of science. : Buch’s Band, a noted group, will give its weekly concert in Central Park tonight and there is a splendid list of numbers arranged for presentation. : Many are concerned at the destruction of Kansas sunflowers as weeds and believe there are better ways to preserve and utilize these colorful state symbols.”
