House to vote today on Iraq deployment plans

? Democratic war critics in the House decided to make one final attempt before a monthlong vacation to nudge the administration toward a new Iraq war policy.

In a reversal, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., decided to have a vote today on legislation requiring the Pentagon to send redeployment plans to Congress within 60 days.

The decision came one day after numerous officials reported that no Iraq-related votes would occur before fall in an attempt to deny nervous Republicans a chance to proclaim their independence from President Bush.
