Old Home Town – 40 years ago

Al Hack, 43-year-old clothier, was named as the chairman for the 1967 United Fund campaign here with insurance man Jack Landreth as vice chairman. Banker Bill Lienhard was to be president for the operation. Lienhard had headed the 1966 drive, the most successful in city history, then was moved up to president in the normal line of succession.

A chain reaction traffic accident occurred in heavy fog early in the morning on Kansas Highway 10 about three miles east of Lawrence. Two people were hurt, 19 vehicles were involved and property damage was estimated at “well over $15,000.” None of the injuries proved to be serious, however.
