To the editor:
An excellent first attempt documentary was presented Tuesday night by two young high school students, Alexia Welch and Sarah Ybarra, at the Lawrence Arts Center to a capacity crowd. It should be required viewing for high school teachers and administrators everywhere.
What a tribute to their teacher who gave them encouragement and free rein to go and do what they felt needed to be done for their project. Kudos to other school personnel who allowed these girls to pursue their goals in an unfettered manner. What a tribute to the educational opportunities for our students in this type of endeavor.
While there are many issues that need to be addressed in our schools, this particular project tells the people of Lawrence that there are teachers in our district who are really, really teaching our kids in a way that will add much to the student's lives in the future.
I am sorry the Journal-World chose not to review the film in Tuesday's newspaper.
